A great day for sports, bad day for the World

  • The Lion will always live on:

A great American passed away today. Senator Edward Kennedy passed away from complications with brain cancer. Whether or not you agree with his policies, what you cannot dispute is that he fought for the people of this country. His strong mind and his compassion for all people let him to be a major player in the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act, the 1993 Family and Medical Leave Act and the Kennedy-Hatch law of 1997. A supporter of comprehensive healthcare, Kennedy fought with Pres. Clinton and Sen. Clinton for the reform this country needs. Although they feel short in their effort, he remained strong. In 2008, he stood with now President Obama and promised that health reform will come and Pres. Obama was the strongest candidate to make this a possibility. Sen. Kennedy, you have been a great inspiration to me in my short 22 years on this planet. Rest in Peace Sen. Edward Kennedy, This nation will miss you and I will miss you.

  • Back To Back:

Last night, Troy Tulowitzki hit a walk off single to beat Los Dodgers in 10 innings. The Rockies, back in June, were 15.5 games back from the NL West leaders but now sit just 2 games back by going 58-22 (ESPN). The Dodgers are very aware of the Rockies comeback, "We feel them coming. That is a good team," Dodgers manager Joe Torre said. "They keep playing. That's what you want a team to do is keep playing. They are very dangerous because they keep coming at you." Tonight, the Rockies try to attack the Dodgers again at Coors Field to cut the lead down to 1 game. Josh Fogg will make his first start of the season due to Aaron Cook being on the DL. EY2 will be in the game again after his professional debut yesterday where he got his first hit as a major-leaguer.

  • Homer News:

The Broncos announced the injury of Chris Sims today. A “high ankle sprain” has sidelined the backup QB for 2-4 weeks. Tom Brandstater will fill the role of #2 QB for the highly anticipated Broncos vs Bears at New Mile High Stadium (Yes, I refuse to call the new stadium by its corporate name).

The Rockies just sit 2 games back of the Dodgers after another walk off win in the 10th.

The Potomac Nationals won against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Unfortunately, the Wilmington Blue Rocks won as well. The PNats still sit 2.5 back of the final playoff spot.

George Mason midfielder Richard Edgar was named a candidate today for the 2009 Lowe's Senior CLASS award for men's soccer. Edgar is one of 30 candidates in the nation for the award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - classroom, character, community and competition (Gomason.com).

“Walk Off Grand Slam! You’ve Gotta Be Kidding Me!”

  • Leading off:

I would not be a real Rockies fan unless I started off with this...
HOLY CRAP SPILLY!!! WALK OFF GRAND SLAM TO WIN IT IN THE 14TH!!!!!!!!!
What a way to win the game! Jim Tracy with some amazing coaching telling pitcher Adam Eaton not to swing because he wanted Ryan Spilborghs to have a shot with the bases loaded, and did he ever come through! On a 0-1 count, Spilly drives a 96mph fastball to deep right center field for the first walk off grand slam in Rockies history. To read the MLB.com article and see the video, follow this link:

  • You Know What Grinds My Gears?:

Now with the amazing win comes a bit bad. The umpire crew was horrible. Now I normally don’t call out the umps, or any official, unless they deserved it. Home plate ump Angel Campos was incredibly inconsistent with his strike zone. At first, neither pitcher could get a strike call on the low outside corner, nor then a pitch later, in the same location, a strike, and then a ball. Late into the game we see this when Adam Eaton is batting. On a 3-0 count, Miller throws the ball on to the outside, clearly off the plate, and Ump Angel Campos called it a strike…a delayed strike. This means he had to think about it! Come on! Then the very next pitch, same location, same pitch, it is called a ball. Now I understand people make mistakes, but his mistakes calling balls and strikes could have been made by a tee-baller. With that said, Angel Campos, the Rockies are 3-0 with you at Coors Field, but please, PLEASE, learn how to stay constant. If you are not going to call the outside corner a strike, DON’T CALL IT A STRIKE THEN! But then again, Mr. Campos, you have stayed constant…constantly bad.

  • Homer News:

With the walk off grand slam, the Rockies are now 4 games up the NL Wild Card Race. The Rockies are also only 3 games back from 1st in the NL West with a critical 3 game series with the current NL West leaders LA Dodgers at Coors Field. Rockies are 2-10 against Los Dodgers going into the mid-week series.

The Broncos acquired OL Russ Hochstein from the NE Patriots for an undisclosed 2010 draft pick. Josh Mc-I will turn your team into Patriots West-Daniels is continuing to make a laughing stock out of the Denver Broncos by signing and trading for Patriot rejects. This will be a loooooong season.

Potomac Nationals lost to the birds of Myrtle Beach and are now sitting 2.5 games out of the final playoff spot. Tonight, the Potomac Nationals take on the Pelicans (Single-A Affiliate of the ATL Braves) to try to make up ground on the Wilmington Blue Rocks.

#29 George Mason Men’s Soccer kicked off another season with a win over #24 UVA, 1-0. The Men’s team is projected to win the CAA again this year.

Round 1

What is up bloggers and non-bloggers? My name is JB and welcome to my rant...err...blog. My aim is for a little bit of comedy/sports/real world (not the crappy MTV show) in one nice package...giggity. Little about myself, I am originally from Colorado and if there is a sports team in Colorado, you better believe I follow them!

Alright, let's begin.

Oldie, but still a goodie:

The only time I will discuss the Michael Vick issue: Leave the man alone! How often do you see a famous person actually spend time in FEDERAL PRISON for something they did? Answer: Rarely. He has admitted what he did was wrong and disgusting, yet certain groups that will not be named, PETA, is determined to derail a man, who served his time for his crime, from making a comeback in his profession. Now I understand that people love their pets...I would love to own a dog...but the fact that someone who is convicted and served his time and is going to try to do the right thing from now on is going to be continually harassed by people is absolutely crazy.

With all this "outcry" against Vick, I have one question...WHAT ABOUT STALLWORTH?

Dante Stallworth had some adult beverages, became impaired, and drove...oh yeah, he hit and killed a guy! Yet, the outrage is with Vick? Stallworth is sentenced to 27 days in county jail, serving 24 and being released on "Good Behavior." No one has an issue with this? According to AAA, almost 13,000 people were killed by a driver operating a vehicle while intoxicated. I personally have lost 2 friends to drunk drivers, yet when a famous person does it, they get a 27 day sentence and out in 24 because of good behavior. So killing a human life is not equal to dog fighting...in fact, it’s less than that. Obscured.

Now on to more recent events. Plaxico Burressis going to jail for 2 years for being dumb enough to carry a loaded gun in the waistband of sweatpants and shooting himself...again, 2 years for shooting yourself, 24 days for hitting and killing a guy while driving intoxicated...no comment.

Lighter news:

The 15th unassisted triple play in MLB history happened yesterday when 2B Eric Bruntlett of the Phillies caught a line drive by Jeff Francoeur, touched 2nd, and tagged the runner coming from first. It was the 2nd ever unassisted triple play to end the game.

Homer News:

Rockies are 3.5 games back in the NL West and 3 up in the NL Wild Card Race after a HUGE game against the SF Giants where a 2 run shot by Seth Smith lifted the Rockies past Tim Lincecum and the Giants.

Broncos are still looking shaky in the preseason with new coach Josh McDannials at the helm.  Orten isn't the answer, Sims isn't either. This whole fiasco could have, and should have, been prevented. Broncos are 0-2 in preseason with one of the tougher schedules in the NFL coming up.

Cutler makes his return to the Mile High City on 8/30 where 76,000 Boo-Birds are flocking to give him his proper "welcome back" greating!

Potomac Nationals are 1.5 games back from the 2nd half championship and playoff berth behind the blue rocks of Wilmington.
